301 through Maryland can be punishing for sure. RIC to St. Charles is fine


After Waldorf I think you end up getting on MD 5 to get to Annapolis? Been a while. At that point the drive is not real different from the St. Charles/Waldorf area but it's freer flowing with a much longer distance between signals.

I don't think there is any secret route anymore. The whole area is so densely packed with commuters that there are no alternate routes remaining.

If you get on at 295 in Richmond blow your horn a few times so I can hear you!
